Turmeric has been used in India and throughout Asia for thousands of years as a spice and medicinal herb.   The “active ingredient” is a chemical named curcumin, which is responsible for both the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities of turmeric and its intense color (it makes a great dye – don’t spill it on white clothes!).  But curcumin is only one among a palette of curcuminoids, plus a variety of compounds known as tumerones, all of which contribute to the invigorating and restorative power of this much-loved herb.

Because curcumin is poorly absorbed into the bloodstream, it helps to combine with black pepper, which contains piperine, a natural substance that enhances the absorption of curcumin by as much as 2000%.  Ginger also helps increase warming effects, while aiding digestion and further strengthening the immune system.

In addition to rooibos, this blend includes honeybush, another South African plant with mild, sweet honey taste and aroma. The combination of rooibos and honeybush is really fantastic – this herbal infusion stands out head-and-shoulders above our other rooibos blends.  But the other ones are very yummy too!
